With Spring here and all of this rain coming our way, it is a more than a great time to consider adding some life and color to your lawn! This is an awesome spring activity as it will keep you busy all throughout summer as well. You can even invite your kids to join and help out.
Not to mention the unlimited benefits from having some fresh vegetables for the family.
Be sure to clean up your area you choose to grow in. Get rid of any debris from the fall and winter seasons. Invest in some fertilizer and mulch as well to revitalize the soil.
Whether you’re adding some flowers and plants or growing a vegetable garden, there will be a few necessities you will need. Especially if your kids will be joining you.
-Kids tools, watering pot, shovels, etc.
-Gloves for yourself
-Fertilizer
-Trowel
-Clippers
-Seedlings
If you’re looking into growing a vegetable garden, some great beginner plants would be tomatoes, peppers, and all kinds of herbs.
For flowers, some great spring plants to start with are pansies, redbuds, lilacs, and tulips.
Some important factors to keep in mind when having a garden are:
- Sun Exposure- Must have at least the afternoon’s worth of sunlight (about 10:00-4:00)
- Soil- Must be moist and loose
- Irrigation- Sprinklers or Hose
Seedlings are recommended for beginners because they are already somewhat grown into a plant. They come in their own pocket of soil, which is easier to grow rather than starting with seeds. When planting these pockets, it is crucial to keep the soil at an even level with the pocket it already comes in.
When planting flowers, they are similar with handling. Just deposit them in the soil at the same level as the root system.
We hope these little beginner tips will help you grow a beautiful garden!
Good Luck!
